The latest in the series of calendars to mark and remember Buckhaven’s rich heritage is now available.
The 2016 calendar is the fifth successive production by environmental campaign group CLEAR – Community Lead Environmental Action for Regeneration – as part of its ongoing effort to help revitalise the town.
The forthcoming year of 2016 is officially Scotland’s Year of Innovation, Architecture and Design, and the picture depicts an aerial shot of the 1960s’ and 1970s’ housing, which replaced the quaint fishing quarter.
Despite winning an architectural award, these houses were not a success and were eventually demolished.
Earlier calendars have depicted scenes from the long gone harbour, beach, swimming pool and College Street shops.
The calendars are produced in Bangladesh by CLEAR’s partner organisation tackling climate change there.
Since they are printed on cloth, they are deliberately intended to serve as a wall calendar for the first year, then can be recycled as a bright teatowel thereafter.
They are available from CLEAR’S premises at 36 College Street, Buckhaven, or contact firstname.lastname@example.org to arrange delivery or collection. CLEAR’s full programme of activities is set to resume early in January.
