THE DIRECTOR of a Kirkcaldy-based business is hoping to shed a few pounds to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

Joan Blanch, proprietor of The Holistic Centre in St Clair Street, wants people in the town to join her in the weight management programme and collect money for a worthy cause at the same time.

She said: “My sister-in-law has cancer and this is what made me want to do something to raise money. But we all know someone who has been affected by it.

“We want people to take part in the weight management programme and get sponsorship from family and friends for doing it. All the money they collect will then go to Cancer Research.

“People taking part will do a programme over four weeks which may include counselling sessions as well as a bootcamp with access to a personal trainer and nutritional advice.

“The fitness classes will be held here in the centre twice a week and we can accommodate up to five people at one session.

“Other programmes on offer include hypnotherapy, or counselling and nutritional advice as well as fitness, or alternatively people can come along just to get weighed, measured and have some nutritional advice. Counselling is important as it helps to get to the root of the problem when it comes to dieting - especially for people like me who have tried various diets and they haven’t worked long-term.”

Joan has a degree in psychology and worked in administration at Edinburgh University for over 27 years.

She has done various research courses in genetics as well as practicing various therapies such as hypnotherapy, reiki and Indian Head Massage.

She always wanted to do a job combining the therapies she enjoys and so when the premises became available for rent, she signed up to create The Holistic Centre, opening in September last year.

She added: “We are also planning to hold other fundraising events at the centre.”
