The East Neuk Wheelchair Appeal is gearing up for its 24th anniversary with the possibility of smashing the £500,000 barrier.

Since 1989 the charity, chaired by Eleanor Bowman has raised £477,757.67 and has donated 119 powered and 34 manual wheelchairs, along with donations to various causes.

As always the main fundraising event will be a charity dinner, to be held this year on October 20 in The Craw’s Nest Hotel, Anstruther, and Eleanor is pleading for people to be as generous as ever.

“A big thank you to all of you who have supported us over the years,” she said.

“Last year’s dinner was a great success with tickets selling very quickly. Over £12,000 was raised on the evening and a fantastic night of entertainment was had by all.

“I hope you can attend and support the dinner and I would urge you to do this as soon as possible as demand for tickets is likely to be high.

Places at the dinner can be booked by contacting the hotel directly and as usual the calibre of the speakers is first class with former Scotland manager, Craig Brown, one of Scotland’s most acclaimed after dinner speakers Bill Copeland, and the Variety Club’s Adger Brown all featuring on the night, compered by TV and radio’s Andy Cameron.

“I am sure you will agree that these individuals will make for a great night of entertainment,” Eleanor continued.

“If you wish you can also make a donation to the auction or the raffle and this will be duly acknowledged on the evening and a mention made in the programme.”
