Chefs join forces for food festival

The second annual St Andrews Food & Drink Festival will take place in November at a host of venues around the town.

This has been confirmed by the St Andrews Partnership following the success of the first festival, which was held in the period around St Andrew’s Day in 2012.

Partnership spokesman Patrick Laughlin explained the festival will again be organised by Viv Collie, who is also a director of the Fife Food Network’s ‘Food from Fife’ initiative and the co-ordinator of the extensive food marquee at the Dundee Flower and Food Festival.

She will be working with Marie-Clare James, who also has very wide experience in the Scottish food industry and event organisation, and is the marketing manager for the Federation of Chefs Scotland.

Mr Laughlin said that there had already been considerable interest from local businesses, and the 2013 festival would be larger than its 2012 predecessor.

He said: “This year, the
festival will run throughout the month of November.

“There will be events held on each of the weekends of the month, building up to a concentrated flurry of activities over St Andrew’s Day weekend – Friday, November 29 to Sunday, December 1.

“We are currently finalising details of two large-scale events for that weekend which aim to partially fill the gap left by the unfortunate demise of the St Andrews Festival.”

Viv said that last year the festival had worked very closely with Food from Fife, with the executive chefs from four of the organisation’s members joining forces in the kitchen for the very first time.

“Fairmont St Andrews, the Old Course Hotel, Golf Resort and Spa, Rufflets Country House Hotel and St Andrews Links worked brilliantly together for the festival dinner, which was held in the Old Course Hotel.

“This year the dinner will move to Fairmont St Andrews, with the same four chefs 
collaborating on the meal, with support from Fife College.

“We will be building on last year’s programme, which included a special event with Scotland’s poetry festival – StAnza – cookery demonstrations, a book signing, the creation of special festival menus, events held by local businesses, and even training in the finer points of whisky,” said Viv.
