An evening of fun and laughter with a sporting theme has been organised to raise funds for our Maggie’s Centre next month.

Associate Fundraising Board members Alistair Cameron and Brian Munro have decided to hold a sportsman’s dinner at the Gilvenbank Hotel, Glenrothes on Friday, September 13, with all proceeds going to the cancer charity.

There are some well known entertainers and speakers billed for the evening, a mixed event open to both men and women, including Willie Allan, a keen sportsman with a wealth of experience in hosting and entertaining.

Guest speakers include retired FIFA referee John Rowbotham, who refereed the 2005 Scottish Cup Final between Celtic and Dundee United, and Eric Davidson who, with his hilarious satirical poetry along with lovely personal anecdotes, is without doubt one of the finest speakers on the after dinner circuit.

New board member Brian Munro said that he was impressed with the support that Maggie’s receives from members of the public.

He said: “It’s very heart warming to know that in these times of financial constraints that there are still many people and organisations who very kindly continue to financially assist Maggie’s through their support of fund raising activities such as this
dinner.”

Community fundraiser Tu Edwards said the sportsman’s dinner was yet another example of the dedication of the board members, who all work on a voluntary basis.

“The board has worked so hard over the year to put together events to ensure that Maggie’s Fife can be sustained, not just now but in years to come,” she said.

“I’d like to thank them for this and I’d like to thank everyone who has supported their events or other events and fundraising efforts in aid of the centre. It means so much to know there are so many caring people who want to ensure this special place is here for those touched by cancer.”

Tickets for the sportsman’s dinner cost £35 or £300 for a table of 10. To book a table contact tumong.edwards@maggiescentres.org or phone 07825056386.
