Councillors in Levenmouth have gone all out to assist Largo Cricket Club with plans to expand its space and improve facilities.
Fife Council’s local area committee decided in principle last week to contribute £5500 towards a a project to develop the pavilion at East Drive and boost its changing facilities for home and away players, male and female, and provide a social space.
The club, established in 1983, is hoping to secure an £11,000 grant from Sports Scotland, after which it should gain the Council’s contribution, while it intends to provide another £5500 from its own funds.
Area services manager Dave Paterson said the plan aligned well with the Council’s commitment to improve sporting and changing areas in Levenmouth.
Around 30-50 juniors were getting involved in some of the practice sessions, he added.
Councillor David Graham said he was a “massive supporter” of sports other than football receiving backing, while Cllr Ally Hunter said it represented a whole community project, with investment for youngsters right through to adults and seniors.
Cllr Charles Haffey added: “We as a committee should be doing everything to encourage the lesser-played sports in the area.”
