Police Scotland has confirmed it is following a positive line of inquiry following a reported serious sexual assault of a teenager in Anstruther.
The incident on Sunday, which took place on Cunzie Street at around 1am, involved an 18-year-old woman.
Police Scotland has also claimed there is not thought to be any risk to the public.
Witnesses reported seeing the area cordoned off by the police later in the day.
A spokesman for Police Scotland said: “The investigation is currently ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact Police Scotland on 101.”
