While Aldi’s new Cupar store may have only opened at 8am this morning there were some who’d queued all night to be first in the door.

A outside the store from the early hours of the morning to get their hands on a special golden ticket.

The first 100 people in the queue won a range of Aldi products, including: 32” TV, Sat Nav, DAB Radio and a shopping bag full of Aldi goodies. Duncan Campbell queued from 12am this morning to win the 32” TV star prize.

Eabha Adair-Brown opened the store along with children from Cupar Preschool Playgroup. She wrote a letter to the store which said it was her birthday wish to be the first ever customer of the new Aldi Cupar. The store granted her wish and presented her with a cake for her 10th birthday.

The new store, located on South Road, has created 18 new jobs, providing a range of opportunities for local people.

Aldi prides itself on the high quality of its produce, so shoppers can expect fresh, locally sourced food throughout the store – Aldi in Scotland works closely with around 70 Scottish suppliers to source over 250 products across its stores.

To show its support for local Scottish suppliers, Aldi Cupar recently sponsored the meat cattle category at the Fife Show, which saw local farmers battle it out to be crowned best in section for the quality of their livestock.

As part of Aldi’s community engagement strategy, and to coincide with the store opening, Aldi Cupar will also be donating a range of baby products from its Mamia range to Cupar Preschool Playgroup.

The store, which stands at 1140sqm, offers 1350 products lines, plus Aldi’s famous ‘Specialbuy’ products.

In addition to the opening day ‘golden ticket’ giveaway, Aldi will be offering samples of Scottish products for customers to try tomorrow (Friday) and Saturday.

Aldi has also invited brand ambassadors from Quality Meat Scotland (QMS) to the new Cupar store during these two days, where they will be preparing cooked samples of Scotch lamb leg steaks, Scotch frying steaks and Scottish pork burgers for customers, all of which display the official Scotch mark.

Store manager, Jamie Thompson, said: “We had a great turn out at the store this morning, and everyone seemed very happy with their golden ticket prizes. The team and I really enjoyed welcoming the local community to their brand new store, and it was great to finally meet our customers.

“We have high quality, local suppliers visiting the store to sample their products this weekend, so we hope our customers show their support and we look forward to seeing them at the store.”
