A COALTOWN of Wemyss man suffered fatal injuries in a tragic road accident near Cupar at the weekend.

Gary Falconer, who was 40, died at the scene after his blue BMW car left the Q45 roadway between the Clushford Toll crossroads and Hill of Tarvit.

The accident, in an area known as Sandy Brae, happened around 10.15am on Saturday.

A 13-year-old female passenger, understood to be Mr Falconer’s stepdaughter, was transferred to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee, where she was treated for minor injuries.

Road closures and diversions were in place for a time while investigations were carried out into the incident, which involved no other vehicle.

Mr Falconer’s family said they were deeply saddened by this tragic incident and described him as a family man and loving father.

A police spokesman added they had also asked for “privacy to grieve”.

Fife Police are continuing their appeal for any person who may have witnessed the accident, or been in the area around the time, to contact them on 0845 600 5702.
