A young dancer from St Andrews is taking full advantage of the opportunities the London Olympics has presented for her to perform on the big stage.

Having just performed at the Olympic torch event in George Square in Glasgow, 17-year-old Anna Britton is now preparing to dance at another Olympic event in London next month.

Anna is one of just five Scottish dancers invited to take part in U.Dance 2012 at the Southbank Centre in London from July 13 to 15 including high-profile performances in the Queen Elizabeth Hall and Royal Festival Hall.

“It is fantastic to be able to perform at events like these,” Anna told the Citizen.

“I really enjoyed George Square and when we go to London there will be 200 at the festival hall.

‘‘It makes it all worthwhile having gone to auditions and worked really hard to get to this level.”

Anna has just been awarded £300 by Fife Council to enable her to take part in a summer dance school and is hoping to receive some local sponsorship as she prepares for her second year on a contemporary dance degree at Dundee College.
