A GLENROTHES couple have marked 60 years together.

John and Catherine Mackinnon celebrated their diamond anniversary.

Catherine, nee Lynne, is originally from Carradale, in Argyll, while John was from North Uist in the Western Isles.

They met at a dance in Inveraray in 1949, when John was working on a hydro-electric scheme and Catherine was employed in the telephone exchange. They married at the parish church in the town where Catherine had two bridesmaids, Elizabeth, her youngest sister and her friend Chris MacGugan. John’s best man was his friend, John McLean.

They went on to have two daughters, Morag and Sheila, and have six grand-children and six great grand-children.

The couple moved to Glenrothes in 1978, where John went to work at Dixon’s Paper Mill in Alburne Park.

Both are active members of St Margaret’s Church, Woodside, where Catherine was an elder for many years and also volunteered with the Wednesday Club.

Grand-daughter, Karen Shaw, said: “My grand-parents would like to thank all their friends and family for the lovely cards and gifts they have received to celebrate their anniversary.”
