Diamond days planned for Queen’s Jubilee!

PEOPLE in the Glenrothes area are set to mark the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, reports MIKE DELANEY.

Royal British Legion Scotland’s branch in the town is having a charity fun day on Saturday, 2 June.

The event will begin with a parade starting off at 10.30am from the car park adjacent to The Golden Acorn.

A fun day will follow between 11am-5pm at the Cos Lane headquarters.

It will feature a fancy dress competition for children. themed as king or Queen. bouncy castle, balloon man, sumo wrestling suits, stilt walker, cool creatures - including Meerkats, snakes, - lizards and giant millipedes - appearances by popular children’s television characters like Dora the Explorer and Peppa Pig, stalls by companies like Body Shop, Partlite, crafts and more.

Guests can get nails done, watch displays by the Territorial Army, who will bring along a military vehicle, and there will also be a raffle, barbecue, electric quad bikes, M&D’s tickets, and facials from Alison Stewart’s hairdressers .

Christ’s Kirk will be holding an all day party on June 5, for which the dress theme will be ‘red, white and blue’.

Tickets cost £15 and cover morning coffee and biscuits, a buffet lunch, afternoon tea, sandwiches and - of course - some ‘bubbly’ to toast the monarch’s 60 years on the throne.

Markinch will celebrate the jubilee with concerts in the Town Hall on Thursday 24 and Friday 25 June.

A host of town groups are involved including the local primary school, Amateur Dramatic Society, Tullis Russell Band, the Community and District choir and Markinch Scottish Country Dancers.

Falkland people are holding their celebration in the Palace Orchard on June 5 from 2-4.30pm.

All residents of the village and of nearby Newtown of Falkland are invited to attend the event, which will feature children’s activities, music and a special jubilee cake.

Guests are being asked to bring their own picnic and dress in red, white and blue.
