A dog was killed as a fire broke out at a Kirkcaldy flat early this morning.

Fire crews were called out to the fire on Westwood Avenue at 1.57am.

Appliances from Kirkcaldy and Methil attended where they discovered a ground-floor flat well ablaze and firefighers wearing breathing apparatus used a hosereel to douse the flames.

One residents of the block of four flats was taken to hospital following the incident.

The cause of the fire is not known at this time.
