Members of East Wemyss and MacDuff community council are celebrating after receiveing two awards at a recent environmental event.

At the ‘It’s Your Neighbourhood’ ceremony held last month in Stirling, council members Bill Wood and Dorothy Mackie picked up a Level 5 ‘Outstanding’ award as well as a ‘Certificate of Distinction’, following a visit from Keep Scotland Beautiful assessor during the summer.

This follows the village’s success in this year’s Beautiful Fife competition, when it was rewarded with a Silver Gilt medal and a special award for landscaping work undertaken by East Wemyss Sea Angling Club.

Bill Wood, community council chairman, said: “None of the awards over the last few years could have been accomplished without the diligent involvement of many volunteers who have given of their time to water and dead-head the flowers in the many planters throughout the village and their interest in environmental matters.

“The Community Council would like to express their thanks to all those involved and to encourage others to offer their services to help maintain the high standards already achieved.”
