NORTH Street in Leven was the scene of separate incidents in the same property block over the weekend.

A man was arrested on Saturday at The Towers, following a stand-off with police which had lasted over five hours.

A police spokesman said officers were called to the scene around 8.30am.

After negotiations, a man was taken into custody around 2.10pm, and nobody was injured, he added. It was unconfirmed what action, if any, was to follow as the Mail went to press.

On Sunday, firefighters were called out around 2.45pm after a blaze was discovered at another flat in The Towers.

Two appliances from Methil (pictured) arrived to find the first-floor property well alight, while firefighters with breathing apparatus tackled the flames.

Several people had left the block when the alarm was raised, said a spokesman, and one more person was evacuated by firefighters. No one was injured and the flat affected had been unoccupied at the time.

Fire crews were on the scene until around 5.30pm and an investigation to establish the cause was under way.
