Man on a Ledge
SO, there’s a man.
And he’s on a ledge.
Well no, not quite, there is a bit more to this crime thriller than suggested by the title.
Sam Worthington plays Nick Cassidy, an ex-cop imprisoned for stealing a £40m diamond who escapes jail and months later turns up on the ledge of a Manhattan hotel threatening to jump to his death.
But all is not as it seems. Cassidy requests a specific police psychologist to talk to and then attempts to convince her of his innocence.
Meanwhile, a media circus builds up on the ground below and when his true identity is revealed, Cassidy becomes an unlikely ‘celebrity’.
All this time, in a building not far away, Cassidy’s brother and his girlfriend are carrying out their part of the plan...
Part cop thriller, part heist movie, this is an enjoyable romp which doesn’t pretend to be anything more than it is.
It’s not going to win any awards and there are holes in the plot you could drive a bus through but if you don’t analyse it too much, it’s entertaining enough and the scenes on the ledge are convincing and successfully convey a sense of tension.
