BRAVE is something a little bit different from your typical Disney Pixar story.
Set in the Highlands, it follows the heroic journey of young Merida (voice of Kelly Macdonald), a skilled archer and headstrong daughter of King Fergus (Billy Connolly) and Queen Elinor (Emma Thompson).
Determined to carve her own path in life, she defies an age-old custom by refusing to get married and inadvertently unleashes chaos and fury in the kingdom, so she turns to an eccentric witch (voice of Julie Walters) who grants her an ill-fated wish.
The ensuing peril forces Merida to show true bravery and harness all of her skills to undo a curse before it’s too late.
Fiesty, determined and courageous, Merida isn’t your typical Disney princess who needs rescued by her prince charming before living happily ever after, and that makes this a refreshing change.
An excellent film to watch with the kids – although perhaps the very young might find a few scenes a bit scary – Brave sends out positive messages about family relationships, choosing who you are, who you want to be and how you treat others.
