Police are appealing for witnesses following the death of an elderly man in a fatal collision in Kirkcaldy overnight.

The collision took place around 12.30am on Tuesday on Invertiel Road (B9157), known locally as the Orrock Quarry Road.

A pedestrian was struck by a white Ford Transit van travelling towards Kirkcaldy, just a mile outside the town.

A 74-year-old man was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

A local diversion is currently in place via the Jawbanes Road.

Inspector Brenda Sinclair, of Fife’s Road Policing Unit, said: “Our condolences are with the family of the man who sadly died.

“I would appeal to anyone who was travelling on the B9157 around midnight or late last night who might have seen a man wearing dark clothing walking on that route, or who may have seen a white Ford Transit van travelling towards Kirkcaldy, to get in touch.

“Road closures are still in place while enquiries are conducted at the scene, and I want to thank the public for their patience at this time.”
