Pupils from Tayport Primary poo, poo-ed thoughtless dog owners with posters designed to encourage them to pick up after their pets.

The winning poster was made by Lara Manning and will be put up around the town with the endorsement of the Community Council and support of local councillors.

Derek Gray, Tayport Ferryport-on-Craig Community Council vice convener, said: “Lara has designed a very bright poster with a strong message that selfish and irresponsible dog owners who fail to pick up and bin their dog’s poo, are spoiling the town and creating a health hazard.

“Our vision is of a sustainable, happy, healthy and thriving community.

“We know that the majority of dog owners clean up after their dogs and we hope this campaign will encourage the irresponsible minority to change their behaviour.

“We are delighted that Tayport Primary and its pupils are fully behind this initiative which forms part of the our action plan.”

Councillor Bill Connor, Tay Bridgehead, said: “This is an excellent and very timely initiative.

“Dog fouling is sadly an ongoing problem and it always seems to increase when the darker nights come in, when irresponsible dog owners might think there is less chance that they will be seen.

“It is an offence and could result in a fixed penalty notice of £80.”
