A new weekly event designed to offer families in Buckhaven the chance to spend quality time together has proved a big hit.
Family Fun nights, a joint project organised by Fife Council’s social department and a number of third sector organisations, have been hugely successfully with local families in Buckhaven and the surrounding area.
The weekly evening includes a chance for parents and their kids to take part in a range of fun and educational activities, such as cooking and painting.
Running for eight weeks at the Buckhaven Community Centre, local families are invited along every Thursday night between 4pm and 6pm until June 9.
The project is helping to fulfil the aims set out by the Levenmouth area committee, with family learning a top priority. A local partnership group has been set up including agencies such as Community Learning and Development, the Family and Community Support Team (FACST), Fife Gingerbread’s Gateway, Homestart Levenmouth and Food Development.
Vicky Wilson, community education worker for Fife Council’s CLD department, said “Family Fun nights are offering families an opportunity to participate in cooking and a chance to sit down and enjoy this as a family.
“A variety of activities such as arts, crafts, board games and family quizzes are provided each week giving families a place to relax and spend time with each other, away from the home environment.”
The take up by local families has already proved successful, with two events having already taken place.
One mum commented: “With being so busy at home these nights have made spending time (together) a lot easier”, while another said: “I am spending time with my kids doing activities that we all enjoy which is good.”
