Detective Inspector Charlie Duncan, who is leading the enquiry, said: “We are keen to speak to anyone who has any information about this tragic accident. In particular, I am keen to speak to any local taxi driver who may have collected someone from the Collydean area of Glenrothes around 04.00am on Saturday morning and taken them to the Promenade area of Leven.

“I would also ask anybody who was driving in the Kirkcaldy, Glenrothes or Leslie areas in the early hours of Saturday to try to recall if they saw a silver Ford Focus, and the direction it was being driven.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Fife Constabulary on 0845 600 5702 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. All information is dealt with in the strictest confidence.
