Fife’s debt worry

DEBT totalling over £19m is hanging over the head of worried Fifers according to the county’s Citizens Advice and Rights service.

The support organisation says that, over the past year, it worked with 24,364 active clients with 10,966 of these being first time clients and there were 29,782 individual enquiries raising a total of 55,455 issues.

The top three issues were debt (38%), benefits and tax credits (37%) and employment (8%).

In respect of debt Citizens Advice and Rights Fife handled 1048 multiple debt cases, with a total debt of £19.01 million.
