A METHIL nursery which has been transformed in the past year has received a glowing report card from inspectors.

The Fishbowl Nursery, situated in Methil Community Education Centre, was praised in its Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Education report for its “warm, welcoming ethos created by staff and parents”.

There were some areas highlighted for further improvement but its children were said to be happy and enjoyed their learning.

The nursery, which employs a fully qualified nursery manager and two fully qualified early years officers, rebranded itself in April this year and is now open in afternoons as well as mornings.

A spokesperson for the nursery said it was delighted with the report.

She added: “The parent management committee (who run the nursery) are extremely proud of their achievements and are a huge asset to the nursery.

“We are inspected the same as every council nursery and follow the exact same curriculum.

“Obviously our biggest challenge is keeping the nursery afloat financially, so we host a number of coffee mornings, attend local galas, etc., go on sponsored walks, and basically have tried to get the Fishbowl name out there.

“We totally rebranded the nursery in April, went around health visitors and toddler groups, started a Facebook page, and lots more.”

Such has been its popularity, the Fishbowl, which offers part-time and full-time places to children from two-and-a-half years up to school age, has even had to turn some away.

Inspectors said parents would be informed of the extent to which the pre-school centre has improved and praised how parents and the management committee worked together.

The report added: “We are satisfied with the overall quality of provision.

“We are confident that most of the pre-school centre’s self-evaluation processes are leading to improvements.

“With support from the local authority, the pre-school centre will be able to make the necessary improvements.”

Kirkcaldy MSP David Torrance wrote to the Fishbowl to congratulate it on its report.

He told staff: “I was delighted to hear about the quality of education care young children receive at the Fishbowl Nursery in Methil and I hope you will be able to continue this excellent service to families in your community for many years to come.”
