Cupar Foodbank has presented a certificate to two local men who organised a fund-raiser at a Hogmanay ceilidh.

George Sharp and Euan Barbour - responsible for the Cupar event for several years - encouraged everyone to throw £1 coins at a bottle of whisky supplied by Luvians Bottle Shop, Cupar. At the same time, youngsters did their bit with a similar challenge involving a large tin of sweets, with a total of £253 being raised.

George said they were delighted to hand over the proceeds to the foodbank, which gave out more than 100 Christmas hampers.

Foodbank manager Fiona Findlay said the “generous donation” would enable the foodbank to continue to support those in need by purchasing items in short supply or which had not been donated.

“The community of Cupar continues to support the foodbank well and we are especially grateful for all donations, particularly at this time of year when the need is at its greatest.”
