THE building of a new foundry in Methil could provide up to 250 jobs for the area, it’s been claimed.
Fife Council has received a planning application for the factory at the Fife Energy Park from a consortium called RGR Foundry Limited that would supply parts for the offshore wind market.
According to the application, the plant would be built behind Station Road, next to the number two dock, and have room to expand to the front and back, contain a storage site and also a car park with 60 standard spaces.
Speaking on behalf of RGR Foundry, Adele Ellis told the Mail: “The foundry would be involved with the manufacturing of parts for wind turbines.
“If you include the actual building of it and all the jobs, including office staff and things like that, then we’d imagine that it could create between 200 and 250 jobs for the east of Fife area.”
A public meeting to discuss the application and provide further details was scheduled to be held at the Memorial Park Centre last week but had to be cancelled.
It has now been rescheduled for Friday, March 23 at 7pm in the same venue.
