Glenrothes band Sergeant first formed in 2004 – and came so close to making the big time.
Comprising four members – Nick Mercer on vocals, Scott Duncan on guitar, Bill Anderson on bass and Rory Buchanan on drums – their first ever gig was at the YMCA in the town.
But in the years to follow, they could be found playing at local venues across the Kingdom including the Greenside in Leslie and The Path Tavern in Kirkcaldy.
Debuting tracks on MySpace and Bebo, they gained a legion of local fans, and were soon playing to a capacity crowd at Rothes Halls.
Gaining prominence on the wider Scottish music scene and later, around the UK – the Guardian named them as a major talent in 2008 – the band signedto Mercury Records in 2007.
They released singles K-OK and Sunshine in 2008 to much critical acclaim.
Before the release of their album in 2009, the band found themselves at T in the Park and Glastonbury, and supported Oasis on the Scottish leg of their tour, and The Fratellies on their entire UK tour. In November 2010, Nick revealed that un upcoming gig at the Rothes Halls may be their last as the members went on to focus on other music and other projects.
