FRIENDS who helped raise enough money for a memorial bench in remembrance of Shelley Elizabeth Petrie celebrated what would have been her 18th birthday last week.

Flowers, cards and messages were left by school friends on the bench which is situated in North Street in the town.

Messages included: “The Big 18, we’re going to have a great time just for you”- Jess, “We’ll party hard for you on your big day!” -Shan, Gary, Steph and Anne, “Today would have been epic” - Jo and Dobel and “I’ll party hard for us both” - Ellen.

Some of the flowers were left in Irn Bru bottles, Shelley’s favourite drink, she died from Cancer on Hogmanay, 2010 just two weeks after being diagnosed with the illness.
