A Glenrothes boy is preparing to take to the stage in Scotland’s two largest cities alongside Jason Donovan in a national touring production.

Alex Morrison, a pupil at Collydean Primary School, has been selected to star as Little Jake in the Annie Get Your Gun UK tour when it comes to The Playhouse in Edinburgh later this month and The King’s Theatre in Glasgow in September.

The 11-year-old will share the role in the Tony award-winning production with Harvey Thomson from Edinburgh.

After dozens of boys auditioned at The Playhouse only the two were chosen to share the role.

Alex is extremely excited to be given the chance to play Little Jake.

He said: “I’m feeling confident about taking on the role.

“I wanted to audition for it as I’d already done it in Markinch.”

The primary six pupil said he felt “really proud” of himself when he found out he’d got the part.

And although he’s looking forward to the opportunity he admitted that he thinks performing in such a big theatre will be “scary”.

Alex’s first theatrical performance was with GAMA (Glenrothes Amateur Musical Association) Youth, where he played Fagan’s den boy and the chairman in ‘Oliver’ at Rothes Halls earlier this year.

He joined the youth theatre group, which is sister Terri is also a member of, as soon as he could at the age of 10.

Alex has also had some experience of taking on the role, having played Little Jake in Markinch Amateur Operatic Society’s production of ‘Annie Get Your Gun’ in the town hall in March this year.

It means he knows the role well and can provide the audience with an experienced performance despite his young years. It was after working on that production that the producer recommended him to G1 Young Performers agency and to audition for the role of Little Jake in the Ambassador Theatre Group’s touring production.

He will star alongside Jason Donovan, Emma Williams and Norman Pace in the touring production when it comes to Scotland.

Alex will share the role with Harvey - performing on three days - when ‘Annie Gets Your Gun’ comes to the Playhouse from June 17-21 and the King’s in Glasgow in September.
