Four military re-enactors took up their posts over the weekend at Scotland’s Secret Bunker, the Cold War command centre near Anstruther, to recreate the guarding of the gates at what would have been the Regional Headquarters in the event of a nuclear attack.

James Mitchell, the Bunker’s managing director, said: “They were dressed in full military gear and gave visitors a real sense of being taken back in time to what it would have been like, had the very imminent threat of a nuclear attack become real.”
