This year’s Anstruther Harbour Festival is to be held in May, bringing a bumper weekend of celebrations to the East Neuk.

Taking place from Friday to Sunday, May 29 to 31, the festival will coincide with the Scottish Fisheries Museum and Anstruther Lifeboat Open Days and the Fisher Lad and Lass ceremony.

The main themes of the festival will again be music and dance, maritime, history and children’s entertainments.

Also attracting visitors that weekend will be the annual East Neuk Open Studios event.

And a new feature of the festival itself will be ‘East Neuk Food and Drink’, which will showcase the best of local food producers and outlets in the festival’s pavilion.

The main themes of the festival will again be music and dance, maritime, history and children’s entertainments.

Music and dance will include a pipe band and Scottish country dancing display, a ceilidh, music event in the marquee, a jazz band and children’s dance displays.

Maritime activities will cover the Anstruther Muster, organised by Anstruther Sailing Club, with its gathering of up to 100 visiting boats, the festival’s Classic Boat Rally of historic working boats, motor boats and yachts, and St Ayles Rowing Club’s Coastal Rowing Regatta with teams from all over Fife competing in races in the harbour.

On the history front, there will be a MacBus mobile exhibition on Fife in the Great War, the sailing drifter Reaper’s below-decks exhibition on the history of the herring fishery, Scottish Submariner’s memorial service for the 1918 Battle of May Island, and the Fisheries Museum Model Boat Club Exhibition of historic model vessels.

There will also be children’s activities, including the Dreel Boat Race when small rubber boats are launched.

The festival will close with an interdenominational ‘Service of the Sea’.
