Mid Scotland and Fife MSP Claire Baker has said the Scottish government must stand ready to step in to ensure continuity of care for vulnerable residents at a Southern Cross home in Methil which has yet to find a new operator.

Southern Cross today published a list of proposed new providers for all but four of its Scottish care homes.

Ms Baker is to alert Health Secretary Nicola Sturgeon to the situation at Forth View and ask what she intends to do to tackle the growing crisis.

Labour MSP for Mid Scotland and Fife Claire Baker said: “My immediate concern is for vulnerable residents at Forth View who are anxiously waiting for news of a new operator. “The timescales for transferring care homes over to new providers are exceptionally tight so it’s absolutely vital that contingency plans are put in place to ensure there will be continuity of care.”

“The Scottish government must stand ready to step in to ensure a smooth transition for Forth View residents who have been living under a cloud of uncertainty for too long.

“I’ll be contacting the Health Secretary to alert her to the situation at Forth View and I’ll also ask how she intends to tackle this growing crisis.

“This sorry episode should serve as a stark warning to Fife Council, which is in the process of handing over the responsibility for its care homes to the private sector.”
