The Victoria Hospital has already seen closures due to the norovirus.

Norovirus – the winter vomiting bug – has already reared its head in Fife.

Ward 12 at Victoria Hospital, Kirkcaldy, was closed recently following reports of sickness and diarrhoea and stringent infection control precautions are in place.

Dr Gordon Birnie, medical director of NHS Fife’s operational division, said: “Please don’t visit unless absolutely necessary and especially not if you are feeling unwell.

“If you aren’t well enough to visit then you are welcome to phone the ward and leave a message.

“If you have vomiting or diarrhoea, you should not visit until at least 48 hours after your symptoms have stopped.”

Meanwhile, NHS Scotland is advising people to stock up their medicine cabinets for the winter, especially with repeat prescriptions.

GP surgeries will close for two days at Christmas and also at New Year.
