A KIRKCALDY couple have proved to be a sparkling example of marriage - celebrating their Diamond wedding anniversary last week.
John and Jemima Brand, who have both always lived in the town, celebrated 60 years of happy marriage on Thursday - and even received a card from the Queen to mark the happy occasion.
“We feel wonderful,” John (83) told the Press. “I’m looking forward to the next 60 years!”
John met Jemima (80) at the Burma Ballroom on the Esplanade in 1948, after returning from three years in the army where he served in Palestine and Egypt.
The couple were married three years later, on March 31 1951, in Inverkeithing Church.
“It’s great,” John continued. “We are both very happy and always have been - if we ever argued we always made it up with each other.”
John, who worked for Allen Litho print makers in Townsend Place for 49 years, and Jemima, who worked for Marks & Spencer, have two daughters, Ellen and Audrey, son-in-law Graeme and two grandsons Steven and Kevin.
The couple said they will be celebrating in the coming weeks with a meal with family and friends.
John added that he believes the secret to his long and happy marriage to Jemima is down to her patience: “I wonder how she’s put up with me all these years!
‘‘It has been very nice indeed.”
