The colourful hippos currently on parade in the Kingdom Shopping Centre in Glenrothes are set to make their way to the Scottish Parliament - thanks to the town’s MSP, Tricia Marwick.
Mrs Marwick attended the Great Glenrothes Hippo Parade in Glenrothes recently and was very impressed with the fibreglass hippos on display and the efforts made by local pupils to design them.
After consulting with Kingdom Shopping Centre officials and the chair of Glenrothes Area Committee, Councillor Fiona Grant, Mrs Marwick made a request to the Scottish Parliament’s Corporate Body (SPCB) to bring the Hippos to Holyrood.
The SPCB responded favourably to Mrs Marwick’s request and the hippos, which will stay in the centre until the end of July, are now set to be on display in the Main Hall of the Scottish Parliament for part of the month of September.
Mrs Marwick said: “The hippos are fantastic and I was so impressed by the work our pupils had put into them. Their colourful designs are now set to take pride of place in the Scottish Parliament and I know my Parliamentary colleagues will be thrilled to see them.
“Glenrothes has a very fond attachment to hippos thanks to the original town art concrete hippos which can be found throughout our town. The Kingdom Shopping Centre deserves great credit for this project and for also involving our school pupils.”
The Great Glenrothes Hippo Parade was held as part of the celebrations of the 40th anniversary of the town-twinning of Glenrothes with Boblingen in Germany.
