Hippos let loose in Glenrothes!

Have your say

A shopping mall in Glenrothes was brought to a standstill on Thursday afternoon when youngsters from 31 schools and nurseries came to witness this year’s Hippo Parade launch.

Around 350 pupils packed into Lyon Square in the town’s Kingdom Shopping Centre to cheer each other on as their creative designs were given their first public airings.

Each of the 16 local schools and 15 nurseries have spent the last few weeks tirelessly transforming their own individual hippo into a colourful and eye catching creation.

And the public have been given the chance to choose their favourites by voting for the designs they like best.

The winning nursery and primary school will each receive £500 and sponsorship of a hippo at Edinburgh Zoo.

The hippos are now on show throughout the centre and voting forms can be obtained from the Kingdom Centre information desk, closing date for submission is August 13.
