FRIENDS of a Kirkcaldy man put their best feet forward to raise funding for the treatment of male cancer in his memory.

Jackie Scotland, her husband Alan Swanson and Jim Small all walked the West Highland Way and collected £2000 in sponsorship.

They recently presented the money to Dr Duncan McLaren, consultant oncologist at the Western General Hospital in Edinburgh.

They took part in the 98-mile walk over seven days in memory of Kirkcaldy man Steven Stroud (49), who passed away in 2008 after a battle with testicular cancer.

The money will go into the Jamie Aird Foundation, based at the Western General Hospital, for the treatment of male cancer.

Steven’s widow, Fiona, told The Press: “I want to thank all the people who sponsored Jackie, Allan and Jim and I want to thank them for doing the West Highland Way in Steven’s memory.

“Dr McLaren was really pleased to receive the money which is going towards the treatment of male cancer.”

She added: “I want to express my sincere thanks to them for the money they raised - I know it’s what Steven would have wanted.”
