An East Wemyss performer is eagerly anticipating the launch of her brand new album, which has the backing of some major players in the music scene.
Singer/songwriter Janey Kirk is due to release ‘Streets of Loneliness’ at the end of September. Her third studio album, Janey has written all but two of the songs on the record which she describes as “country with a hint of jazz and blues”.
Janey, who has been singing since she was just six years old, worked with guitarist and producer Jerry Donahue on the new album, joining stars such as The Proclaimers, Robert Plant, Elton John and Cliff Richard on the list of artists who have all worked with the American and former Fotheringay and Fairport Convention band member.
“It was absolutely brilliant working with Jerry,” she said.
Jerry was so taken with the album, he’s not only acting as guitarist but has taken up the role of co-producer as well, working closely with Janey and Fergus Black of REC Music to produce the final product.
“(Jerry) has fans worldwide which will take my new album further afield than my general country fan base,” said Janey.
The title song - co-written by Janey, Marty Craggs, formally of Lindesfarne, and Les Dodd from The Happy Cats - is already available to view at www.vevo.com., www.CMT.com and Viacom.TV.
It was shot right in her home village of East Wemyss, where she was born and brought up.
Janey, represented by Star 1 Records, has been immersed in the country music scene for a number of years, and has toured with the legendary Phil Mac, as well as appearing on the Phil Mac International Country Show. A weekly music review spectacular, it airs on Monday evenings on Sky channel 191, and Janey has been featured a number of times.
After a busy summer of recording and touring, including a live show with the Phil Mac International Country Show in Hembsy last weekend, Janey has big plans to undertake a US tour with Jerry Donahue, who splits his time between America and the UK. She’ll also be travelling to Shetland in September, and there are plans to release a DVD of her music videos in the future.
