HAir’s to Jimmy: An army war veteran from Kirkcaldy is making the most of a promise from a town barber of free haircuts for the rest of his life.
After getting a monthly trim from Les Fimister in the town’s High Street for the past seven years, Jimmy Sinclair (99), of Blackcraigs, the country’s oldest surviving Desert Rat who fought against Rommel in the north African desert, was promised free haircuts from his 99th birthday.
And this week the sprightly pensioner, who served his country with the 7th armoured division popped in for his freebie.
He said: “I have been coming here since I moved back to Kirkcaldy - he is the best barber in the town.”
And he joked: “I will be coming in every week now as I have to get my money’s worth!”
Jimmy moved to Germany in 1981 after his wife’s death, to live with friends he made after the war, living for 22 years in the Eifel region.
He is a personal acquaintance of Field Marshal Rommel’s son Manfred, who is an important statesman in Germany and a former Lord Mayor of Stuttgard.
Jimmy returned to Kirkcaldy at the tender age of 92.
Les added: “He is a fantastic man – a real character with loads of great stories.’’
