Police in Glenrothes have charged one juvenile in connection with the desecration of Leslie cemetery.

Glenrothes Inspector Joanne McEwan confirmed that one person had been arrested and charged.

“One person has been charged but we are continuing our investigations as we believe they did not act alone,” said Inspector McEwan.

“This was an appalling act of vandalism which understandably caused a lot of anger and distress within the town.

“I would like to thank the local community for their support as we seek to bring those responsible to justice.”

There was widespread condemnation of the vandalism after a total of 65 headstones were knocked over or smashed during the act of vandalism, which took place over the weekend of May 28-29.
