Keys to a brand new future in Burntisland

Burntisland’s new state-of-the-art £12.6 million primary school has been handed over to Fife Council representatives.

Councillor Bryan Poole, spokesman for education, officially took possession of the keys from Martin Cooper of BAM Construction Ltd.

The school will fling open its doors on August 20 to receive the first influx of children marking a new term, a new year and a new era for Burntisland Primary.

Furniture is still being moved in and staff will be putting the finishing touches to classrooms before the children are welcomed into their new school, following the summer holidays.

Cllr Poole said: “The children have been watching their new school grow from the very first turf cutting right through to completion and the look on their faces as they walk through these doors for the first time will be priceless.”

Burntisland’s new primary school is the fourth school completed under Fife Council’s £200m Building Fife’s Future programme.

Construction began in March last year and the project was completed on schedule.

“The project at Toll Park gives the children of Burntisland a school which is fit for 21st century education,” said Cllr Poole.

“The new, state-of-the art accommodation means they can expand upon the excellent learning and teaching which already existed at Burntisland.

“They can learn and grow without the constraints of an old, cramped and inadequate building.

“I’m delighted to accept the keys to this exceptional building and I, for one, can’t wait for the end of the school holidays.”

Pupils and staff at Burntisland Primary gave their old school a farewell hug before the summer holidays began.

Head teacher Julie Anderson said pupils were excited about the move.

She added: “In our old building, we could very rarely all get together because there’s no space.

“Being in the new school will mean we are able to get together more often at the same time as a whole school community.”
