A KINGHORN couple have become the first winners of a UK-wide competition from Irn-Bru, all thanks to their granddaughter.

James and Julia Fraser, who live in Sandhills Caravan Park, are the first of 10 winners to win a week’s holiday at “Bru-Island”, a picturesque paradise in the sunny Cape Verde off the west coast of Africa.

And James said he only checked the label on his winning bottle after seven-year-old Ellie made him.

He said: “We’d bought two bottles of Irn-Bru from Asda in Dalgety Bay. Ellie looked at the bottles and said we should check. I said to her no-one ever wins these things.

“She ripped off the first label and it wasn’t a winner. So then she said to me “Right, grandad, you go”.

“So I ripped mine off and had a look. I couldn’t believe it. I said to Julia I think we’ve won.”

Julia said: “I thought he was winding me up!”

The couple are taking Ellie and her mum Nicola on the all-inclusive five star holiday when they set off on October 14.

James said: “I’ve never won anything like this before, it’s all a bit unreal.

“But I’m actually starting to believe it now!”
