A Kinghorn teenager is set to embark on the trip of a lifetime to Bolivia with fellow classmates this summer.
Taylor Gray is a pupil at Balwearie High and is taking part in a World Challenge trip to central South America on June 23 for a month.
The 15-year-old will be one of 45 pupils from the school travelling to Bolivia and they have each had to raise over £3000 to participate.
Taylor said they also have to research the expedition and organise their itinerary.
“We will be doing a project working with the local community helping to paint and decorate classrooms and we will also be taking part in a trek that will take us over 5000 metres high.
“We have had to raise £3795 plus buying our own kit and vaccinations. There is a group fund we also have to raise.”
Various activities have given Taylor’s fundraising a boost including: a 10k run in Perth; a Pimms Party, a band day at the Carousel Coffee Shop and Gifts, a karaoke night and candle party.
He has also received generous donations from Black Rock Mountaineering Club, Danthorn Joinery, Kinghorn Garage, KSW Engineering, local businesses and friends of Taylor’s mum Carolyn Morris.
He also received a special gift from Tish Mackie who gave him a Terramundi Pot containing £272.60 that she had saved for his trip.
Taylor plans to do a sponsored abseil from the Titan Crane in Clydebank on March 23 and the Easywalking Group are doing a fundraising walk along the Fife Coastal Path in April. Anyone wanting to give Taylor a donation should log onto: http://tinyurl.com/TaylorBolivia
