STRUGGLING music and DVD retailer HMV is to close 11 stores throughout Scotland with the loss of 178 jobs - including the Kirkcaldy outlet in the Mercat Shopping Centre.
Insolvency firm Deloitte announced earlier today that it would be closing a total of 66 shops across the UK, with 930 staff directly affected.
The stores will continue to trade in the meantime, with no dates fixed for closure. The stores are, however, expected to be shut over the next two months.
As well as Kirkcaldy, the Scottish stores affected include the Ocean Terminal, Princes Street and St James’ Centre branches in Edinburgh, at outlets at Glasgow’s Silverburn and Braehead shopping centres, and Falkirk and Dumfries.
Three FOPP shops in Edinburgh and Glasgow are also continuing to trade, but there is no word on their future.
