A LADYBANK couple are taking three years out from retirement to serve as full-time volunteers for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Alan Brown (64), will serve as the Scotland Ireland Mission President, with his wife Sylvia, also 64, as his companion.
They have taken up residence in the mission home in Edinburgh where they will be based.
Alan and Sylvia will be the first Scottish couple to oversee the Scotland Ireland Mission, and will supervise and train its 150 young missionaries and 18 senior couples.
They will also liaise with church leaders throughout Scotland and Ireland.
Although the Browns will not be far from home, the nature of their service will mean drastically reduced contact with their six children and 20 grandchildren.
Alan said: “The gospel has brought us so much happiness in our lives that we want to share that with others. That’s why we’re willing to serve.”
