Foamtastic!

Waiting for Video...

One of St Andrews University’s oldest traditions took place last week as students gathered for a mass foam fight in St Salvator’s Quadrangle.

Hundreds of students braved the chilly conditions to assemble, mainly in fancy dress, and cake each other in foam in a tradition of which the origins are shrouded in mystery.

And while the university praised those that took part in ‘Raisin Monday, they are keen to speak to anyone in the town who was inconvenienced last weekend by a small number of students who may have misbehaved.

“We are grateful to the volunteers who turned out to help make sure the event went ahead safely and smoothly,” a university spokesman said.

“While the foam fight was a great and fun occasion which again attracted international media attention for St Andrews and the university, we are aware that, during Raisin celebrations on Saturday and Sunday, there may have been some occasions when the behaviour of a small number of our students fell below the standards which we and the Students’ Association expect of them.

“We are anxious to hear from any townspeople or members of the public who may have witnessed or been inconvenienced by such behaviour, and would ask them to call us on St Andrews 462020 so that we can properly investigate and follow-up, where possible.”4412020
