When Joy Steele was asked if she could lend a hand at a museum, she thought it was a one-off and was happy to help.

Little did she know it would be the start of a volunteering role at St Andrews Preservation Trust Museum that would last more than quarter of a century.

However, the retired PE teacher and assistant rector at Bell Baxter High School has loved her regular weekly stints as a guide and enjoyed sharing her enthusiasm.

Curator Samantha Bannerman said: “Joy not only provided a friendly welcome, but she shared her first-hand knowledge of the town with museum visitors.

“The latter is something that makes visiting our museum so special, so she will be sorely missed on duty.”

Joy will be keeping in touch with the museum as she plans to continue as a member of the fortnightly scrapbook group.
