A CALL has been made to create a forum to drive development at Invertiel.
It came just days after councillors allowed Morrisons’ plan to build a supermarket on the site of the old B & Q to proceed.
Councillor George Kay believes the forum could hold the key to finally begin transforming the area which has been left derelict for many years.
At last week’s area committee, he backed McDonald Estates’ bid to develop the area for Morrisons - despite concerns voiced by The Mercat that such a project would hamper their own ambitious expansion plans.
Both projects were given the backing of the committee.
Now Councillor Kay has written to Council officers demanding that action be taken as quickly as possible to establish a group.
He said: “The committee was quite explicit in its recommendation concerning the establishment of a forum as soon as possible .
‘‘I would hope we can see some positive moves in the next few days.’’
Councillor Kay believes such a forum would include planning officers, local councillors, and community groups - Kirkcaldy West Community Council, Invertiel Tenants and Residents Association, and new pressure group KNAT (Kirkcaldy Needs Action Today) could have roles to play.
He added: “I would also welcome representation from the owners and developers of Invertiel Stagecoach, and Stocks Warehouse.’’
Councillor Kay believes the forum’s agenda would cover the development plans already on the table as well as updating the proposed hovercraft service, and look at the potential to develop the old bus garage paint shop depot on the Esplanade.
