ORGANISERS of Burntisland Civic Week 2012 are going for gold this weekend.
The annual event will officially launch on Saturday with the crowning of the Burntisland Summer Queen at noon followed by the parade through the Links and the High Street.
Louise Lindsay (10) is this year’s Queen and she will be supported by her entourage of Emily Boyle, Joana Barron, Tess Hadoke, Alice Stark, Morgan Stewart, Ellie Wilson, Lennon Jones and Adam Wilcox.
The theme this year is ‘The Olympics and Paralympics’ - it was chosen by pupils at Burntisland Primary.
After the parade, led by Burntisland Pipe Band, there will be the party on the Links which will feature the popular W3L Wrestlers - sponsored by Briggs Marine - who proved to be a main crowd-puller at last year’s event.
Also included as part of the entertainment will be a mini Olympics ‘Try and See’ and this will involve youngsters aged between five and 12, trying out the javelin, shot putt and hurdles.
As well as a visit by Kingdom of Fife Falconry, which will present their birds of prey to children between noon and 3.00 p.m, there will be clowns, dancers and the Kingdom FM roadshow.
The Party on the Links will run until 3.30 p.m. followed by the Children’s Playgroup Disco in the Toll Centre from 4.00 to 6.00 p.m. and the Summer Queen Disco in the Parish Church Hall from 6.00 to 10.00 p.m.
In the event of wet weather, all activities will be moved inside the two halls at Burntisland Parish Church.
