Wonderful floral and vegetable displays filled the village hall as the Letham & District Horticultural Society hosted its 112th annual flower show and industrial exhibition.

Although the overall number of entries across the wide range of categories was slightly down from last year’s 10-year high, the exhibitors provided a colourful and attractive display for the steady stream of visitors. The children’s section attracted a large number of entries in all age groups, with creativity and imagination shining through in their pictures and crafts.

A new trophy, in memory of champion onion grower Willie Crichton, from Freuchie, was presented to the winner of the children’s vegetable section. Cameron Service, from Collessie, was the first recipient for his enormous curly kale plant.

Perhaps due to the good summer weather, the vegetable section included some impressive entries of French beans, red onions, peas, rhubarb and tomatoes.

The pot plants and cut flowers section featured wonderful displays of begonias, cacti, coleus, insectivorous plants, fuchsias and gladioli.

The floral theme continued in the decorative section, with competitors showing imaginative use of flowers and foliage in their displays.

And the handicrafts section proved popular too, with entrants demonstrating a range of practical and decorative skills.

The baking section featured delicious scones, biscuits, traybakes and loaves.

And the photographic section, on the theme of ‘transport’ included everything from walking to horse riding to hot air ballooning, and everything in between.
