SCOTS DG soldiers headed out into Leuchars village to help clean up debris and litter after storm Gertrude swept across Scotland last night.

Demonstrating a neighbourly duty and proving they are part of the local Leuchars community, soldiers from the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards headed out of the base and into the village this morning to clean up after storm Gertrude.

Checking for serious damage and collecting strewn debris following the strong winds swept across Scotland overnight, closing the Tay Bridge and the Forth Road Bridge as well as other transport links around the country.

A SCOTS DG spokesperson said: “The Commanding Officer took it upon himself to get the regiment out into Leuchars this morning to clear up the debris and litter left by storm Gertrude overnight.

“It was a good neighbourly gesture, and one which he felt was beneficial to the community.”
